What About that Song

Fast Enough

“Fast Enough” is a song I co-wrote with Stan Webb and Rick Stewart. It was one of those magic moments when it actually felt like a song kind of wrote itself.

We were all scheduled to write at Stan’s place in the early afternoon that day. Stan lived on a rolling hillside farm out in the countryside near Lebanon, Tennessee. He had told me when I first started writing with him the spirit is in this place. I wasn’t quite sure what he meant at the time, but I learned over the years what he was referring to.

Since I was the new out of town kid that day, it was up to me to bring some song ideas or melodies to the table to write with these 2 veteran Nashville songwriters. After a brief introduction and 20 or 30 minutes of small talk it was time to get down to business. I started playing this little musical motif. Pretty much the first 2 chords of the driving introduction of the song. A suspended G chord to some kind of suspended C chord. I noticed they both kind of looked at me and nodded. I could tell my melody was getting their attention. Then Stan says, “that sounds like fast enough”. He just spoke the title into existence! I caught his vibe right away. I came up with the opening 2nd line, “Lord you know she looked so tempting / She was a country version of Paris Hilton¾and we were off and running. We finished that song in less than 2 hrs. Yes, the songwriting spirit was alive and well that afternoon.

LOVE ME WHEN YOU WANT copy.jpg

Love Me When You Want to

This is one of the most requested self-written songs at my Live Shows. When I sing the opening lines, it almost feels like the audience is listening in on the conversation as it is taking place for the 1st time. They seem almost giddy as they imagine the special someone they have been daydreaming about and hoping to hear from suddenly calling them on the phone from out of the blue. They always smile so big while they are singing along.

“I was hoping you would call me when my phone started ringing

I danced across the kitchen floor left footprints on the ceiling

When I heard your voice all I could do was smile”

This song is from the Summer Sessions 2007 album produced by Larz May. Larz played some really slick, smooth and clean lead guitar licks on this track that sure make this song shine!
